In Ntchisi, members of RWA have been working with women to help them prepare for climate change in practical ways. With weather becoming harder to predict and farming no longer as stable as before, women are finding ways to support each other and stay strong.
In April, women came together in meetings to reflect on these efforts and share their progress.
Since January this year, two Village Savings and Loans (VSL) groups have been formed. These groups are helping women save money, borrow when needed, and plan better for their families. For many, this has become an important support system.
Women are also working together to grow and share indigenous seeds. These seeds are important because they can survive better in changing weather. Women are learning how to grow them for food and also for income.
Through study circles, women meet to talk about small business ideas and other ways to earn money when farming is difficult. These meetings are simple but helpful, giving women space to share and learn from each other.
Emily, the Chairlady of RWA Malawi, said: “Women have accepted this well because they are the ones most affected by climate change. These activities are helping them find strength and hope together.”
In Ntchisi, women are not just facing climate change they are working together to find solutions and support each other every day.
