Welcome to the Rural Women's Assembly, where we stand as unwavering advocates for the rights and empowerment of rural women across Southern Africa.
Our mission is to reshape a society where active and autonomous rural women movements spearhead the charge towards sustainable livelihoods and climate justice.
Empowering rural communities, nurturing change. Together, we safeguard the essence of life - land, seeds, and livelihoods, championing equality and sustainability.
ABOUT US
The Rural Women’s Assembly is a self-organised network of rural women movements, assemblies, organisations and chapters of mixed peasant unions, federations and movements in different countries in the SADC region. The Rural Women’s Assembly stands as a cohesive network. Our primary advocacy focuses on securing the rights of rural women and girls, ensuring their access to and ownership of land. Championing the cause of Small Scale producers in achieving food sovereignty is a cornerstone of our mission. We are staunch stewards of the environment, continuously devising sustainable solutions. Through our dedicated efforts, we engage national and regional authorities, as well as global institutions, spotlighting the multifaceted challenges faced by rural women. Our campaigns centre on securing food sovereignty, safeguarding biodiversity and ecological heritage, and striving for a world free from violence against women.
