On Saturday, October 22nd, communities in the Langeberg region celebrated International Rural Women\’s Day and World Food Day with a public event in McGregor.
The event brought together women from outlying areas in the Western Cape to showcase food, art, music and celebrate the role of rural women in advancing food security.
It was an opportunity to raise their voices about access to land, water, seeds and fishing areas. But it was also an opportunity to share with each other the various goods and produce they make such as pickled figs, smoked mussel meat, pickled akrikkels, crochet goods, cooked foods, and other arts and crafts.
