Welcome to Lusaka, the Capital City of Zambia.
We feel very honoured and privileged to be the host country to this year\’s Feminist School. Every year Zambian sisters travel to participate in this important school and it is for this reason that we welcome you with joy.
RWA Zambia is part of the big, wide Rural Women’s Assembly family who are fighting for better livelihoods, for their rights in different spheres of human endeavour, identifying and rediscovering who we are and what our heritage is as Africans.
Zambia, like all other countries in the SADC region, faces similar challenges and issues, such as gender inequality, having few women in decision making positions and processes, gender-based violence, unpaid and unappreciated labour, patriarchy and poverty to mention just a few.
There is need to continue the struggle until our voices are heard. We have a task—to liberate ourselves as women from oppression, to end poverty by growing our own food at household and community levels, to continue fighting to preserve our indigenous seeds and food, to change our agricultural methods and promote agroecology, and indeed, to preserve our nature.
Zambia has also been affected by climate change in some parts of the country where there was severe drought. We thank our regional office for supporting us in sensitising fellow women about the effects of climate change, adaptation and mitigation.
Wishing all of us a very successful and educational Feminist School.
WELCOME ONCE MORE TO ZAMBIA.
