With this year’s women’s day theme “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality”, In Shibuyunji, RWA Zambia members, strongly believe that rural women should have equal access to digital technology, without being left behind. It\’s essential for women to have the ability to communicate through various digital channels such as radio and smartphones, and to be part of the innovative movement. RWA Zambia firmly believes that innovation thrives when everyone is actively involved and can contribute equally.

During one of the Zoom meetings, it was discussed how important it is to embrace natural farming practices, such as organic farming, using natural seeds, organic manure, and fertiliser like Bokashi. RWA Zambia members believe that smart agriculture means practising conservation farming, by planting trees instead of cutting them down for charcoal production. Through these methods mitigation of the negative effects of climate change can be done. 

In the wake of Cyclone Freddy, the members of RWA Zambia also showed unparalleled solidarity with their sisters in Mozambique, Malawi, Zimbabwe and Madagascar. Over 80 members joined in on an online webinar that aimed at drawing attention to the on-going challenges of women affected by cyclone Freddy, sending words of encouragement and making pledges to offer their support. The devastation caused by Cyclone Freddy was far-reaching, with many people in Mozambique, Malawi, Zimbabwe and Madagascar facing the destruction of their homes and livelihoods. RWA Zambia members saw the need to reach out and show their support for their fellow members affected by the cyclone. During the meeting they gave words of consolation and 2 country leaders (Mary Sakala and Grace Tepula) volunteered to be part of the committee that will plan the relief solutions that will be made for the affected sisters.
