RWA Tanzania: Access to land for women

Janeth Mbalamwezi is 46 years old living at Nkasi district in Rukwa region located in southern highland of Tanzania, she is a single mother and having five (5) children. She is a smallholder farmer and a member of Tanzania Rural Women Assembly.

Challenge

After the death of her husband on 2021, Janeth struggled to provide the basic needs of her family such as food, shelter, and clothing. In response to her difficult situation, her parents gave a piece of land (one acre) on 2022 to 2024 to help her to grow food and support her children. Through hard working, Janeth was able to improve her situation, and she successfully purchased another piece of land (one acre). She has continued to support and provide for her family ever since.

Action taken:

Before the establishment of Tanzania Rural women Assembly Janeth Mbalamwezi engaged with MIICO through access to land project. Through this project Janeth got an opportunity to learn different issues concerned the importance of women to access land and she got the chance to know the availability of forum (Tanzania Rural Women Assembly) and their importance for women where she participated on different activities including dialogue on land access to women and increase more skills on the importance of women on land ownership.

Conclusion:

Finally; Janeth expressed their appreciation for the forum, after giving an opportunity to participate in different forum activities especially dialogues and being among the member who benefited with the forum’s efforts and impact.
