Karibu Project on rural women rights in RWA Zambia

RWA Zambia has been carrying out various activities in the  month of may 2023.RWA Zambia launched the Karibu Project on Rural women Rights April,2023. The Karibu campaign is a 12 month project which focuses on three key areas namely agroecology  also known as ecological agriculture, Agro Forestry and United Nations Declaration on the rights of peasants (UNDROP).

RWA Zambia under the Karibu project has been conducting training programs and awareness campaigns on UNDROP  ,agro ecology and agro forestry in six regions namely, Mungule, Rufunsa, Chingola, Luanshya, Shibuyunji and Mumbwa.

After receiving training in ecological agriculture, RWA Mungule members have been growing vegetables such as rape,okra,eggplant ,cabbage ,tomatoes and winter maize using tea Manure /compost tea as an income generating activity for women in order to financially empower  rural women in the community.

Other than that , RWA Mumbwa on the other hand  under agroforestry has grown 100 trees of Fidebia albida  in our local language known as Musungu tree  which is a nitrogen fixing specie that absorbs nitrogen from the air during early offset of rains and this is fixed through roots that go deeper in the soils and also acts as a pan cracker.

Lastly but not the least, on the 27th of April ,2023  with support from RWA southern africa,RWA Zambia paid a solidarity visit to Charidzulu and Phalombe districts in Malawi and donated seed to the survivors of cyclone Freddy.
