Over a hundred women activists in the Eastern Cape converged on Tshabo Village 1 near Berlin on October 19 to mark International Rural Women’s Day.

The event was attended by women from different Inyanda movements such as Makukhanye, Siyazakha, Rural People’s Movement and Ilizwi Lamafama Women’s Forum, who hosted the event.

“The main objective of this event was to look at the challenges that rural women face in their daily lives starting from being a girl child growing up in a rural area, and the difficulties and constraints one has to go through in that kind of an environment,” said Nomonde Phindane from Ilizwi.

A second objective of the event was to look at the victories and achievements that rural women have accomplished despite all the challenges encountered.
