Commemorating the African child in Malawi with the theme of children\’s rights in the digital age is an essential and current topic, just like in any other country in Africa. Children are among the most frequent consumers of digital technology since the digital world has a growing impact on our daily life. The use of digital technology, however, also exposes kids to a variety of problems, such as identity theft, cyberbullying, online grooming, exposure to unsuitable content, and cyberbullying.
In an interview with the Chairperson of the Rural Women Assembly Malawi’s Chapter, Alice Kachere, said it is critical to raise awareness of these dangers and to promote the defense of children\’s rights online. She went on to note that their group has been speaking out against any incident of child abuse through a number of projects, including workshops, conferences, and awareness-raising campaigns.
“RWA recognizes how crucial it is to give children the tools they need to use technology responsibly and safely, which is why we have started educating them about online safety, the advantages and disadvantages of social media, and encouraging good digital citizenship,” Kachere said.
She went on to say that celebrating the African child in Malawi while putting a special emphasis on children\’s rights in the digital sphere is a crucial step in ensuring that children in Malawi and elsewhere may fully engage in the digital world while also being safeguarded from its dangers.
In her remarks, she also mentioned that the Rural Women Assembly has planned a variety of events that will be held as a means of marking the day, including local sporting contests, cultural exhibitions, and educational activities. The Rural Women Assembly can also take advantage of the occasion to roll out campaigns or programs that support children\’s rights, such as plans to offer education and medical care to children in rural areas. The day could also be utilized as a chance to interact with decision-makers and other stakeholders in order to promote laws and initiatives that advance the welfare of women and children across the nation.
