The Rural Women’s Assembly has been featured in an interview by Defending Peasants’ Rights, reflecting on corporate impunity, seed sovereignty, UNDROP, and the struggles of rural women across Southern Africa.
The interview was conducted during the 11th session of negotiations for a United Nations legally binding treaty to regulate transnational corporations, held at the Human Rights Council in Geneva. RWA representatives from South Africa, Zambia and Swaziland shared how transnational corporations continue to threaten rural women’s rights to land, water, seeds, food sovereignty and climate justice.
Through this interview, RWA affirms that rural women are not only defending their communities from corporate harm, but are also protecting indigenous seeds, local food systems, biodiversity and generations of knowledge. The article also highlights the urgent need for African governments to support the implementation of UNDROP and to stand with communities resisting corporate exploitation.
