On the 14th to 15 th of October,2023.RWA Zambia participated in the 6th Zambian seed and food festival held at Munda wanga Botanical gardens in Lusaka, Zambia. Under the Theme: Celebrating traditional seed,food for healthy,safe and nutritious for people,planet and the economy. This event was characterized by displays of food and seeds grown in Zambia and various traditional cooked foods were also displayed and people were given an opportunity to purchase the food and seeds.
To commemorate International Rural Women’s Day and World Food day RWA Zambia, Rufunsa and Shibunyuji joined Millions of rural women around the world to celebrate the two important events.
Women Arise and Fight for Seed,Food,and Climate Justice. The rural women matched , displayed their seed and food and held a Campaign on the United Nations Declaration of rights of peasants UNDROP.
Further, Seed sharing amongst rural women was also done in order to promote growing local food and preserve local seed hence promoting healthy diets and eradicating hunger issues amongst rural women. The theme for 2023 is ‘Safe food today for a healthy tomorrow’ which stresses that production and consumption of safe food have “immediate and long-term benefits for people, the planet, and the economy.”
