The Free State Rural Women’s Assembly teamed up with the local Ward Councillor and Ward Committee of Ward 3 in Botshabelo to host an International Rural Women’s Day event at the Samson Sefuthi Hall in Botshabelo.
Women activists from Excelsior in Mahlatswetsa District, and from different sections of Botshabelo attended the event.
The local government partners agreed to provide catering while the FSRWA mobilised the women’s groups they were working with to attend.
“The Mangaung executive Mayor, Ms Olly Mlamleli, was originally invited as the main speaker but she did not pitch, although she promised to be part of the occasion,” explained Moipone Jwayi from the FSRWA.
“The FSRWA became the main speakers at the event due to the absence of the executive Mayor,” Moipone added.
Local councillor Mr Pitso Mokoloko opened the event, which took the form of a celebration. Different groups performed traditional and cultural dances which received enthusiastic applause from the audience.
