On August 16th, the Rural Women’s Assembly (RWA) will mobilize 1,000-2,000 women across 30 locations in 10 countries for a Day of Action focused on climate resilience and seed sovereignty. Sisters will engage in parallel discussions and plant trees, reinforcing our commitment to sustainable agriculture and environmental stewardship.

Event Theme: “Building Resilience in the Face of Climate Change: A Call to Action for Southern African Communities”

RWA Zimbabwe’s Side Events:

  1. Towards Greater Seed Sovereignty: Delving into the rights to seeds and the implications of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (THE SEED TREATY).
  2. Climate Change and Its Impact on Women: A critical discussion on how climate variations disproportionately affect women, and strategies for resilience and advocacy.

Country Chapters’ Focus:

  • Understanding the role and effectiveness of the SADC Heads of State.
  • Exploring the nuances of the SEED TREATY and advocating for robust seed sovereignty.
